How to Turn Off Narrator on Windows

Windows allows you to turn off Narrator in a bunch of different ways. You can use the key shortcut, exit the narrator window, use the taskbar or do it from Windows settings.

Disable Windows 10 Narrator via Key Shortcut

Just like you can do with some other functions on Windows, you can also use the combination of keys on your keyboard to disable Narrator. This is a quick way of disabling Narrator, and you don’t have to move through various windows to do this.

Simply press “Ctrl + Windows logo key + Enter,” and Narrator will be automatically disabled.

You can also turn it on through the same method. This comes in handy when you want to turn it on while in the middle of something.“Ctrl + Windows logo key + Enter,” will enable it. You’ll see the Narrator dialog box.

You can also turn it off by clicking “Turn off Narrator.”

The Narrator shortcut key combination doesn’t stop there. There is still another way to call up or turn it off Narrator using another key combination.

Simply click “Ctrl + Windows logo key + N.”

Doing this will take you to Narrator Settings. You can then click the switch to turn off Narrator.

Disable Windows 10 Narrator via Narrator Window

If you don’t want to use the key combination but want to exit from Narrator right from your screen, you can do this by simply closing the window.

On the Narrator Window, click Exit Narrator or just click the X icon located at the upper-right corner.

Disable Windows 10 Narrator via Windows Settings

The Settings app allows you to do many things you wouldn’t be able to ordinarily do outside of it. The Narrator app can be controlled from Windows Settings also. Here’s how:

1. Click the Start menu and navigate to Settings. This is the settings we are talking about.

2. In Settings, click Ease of Access.

3. Next, open the Narrator settings.

4. You’ll see a switch that can allow you to turn off Narrator. Simply click on that switch and Narrator would be disabled.

Disable Windows 10 Narrator via Taskbar

Just like you would do to other apps that are on your taskbar, you can also close Narrator from the taskbar. The taskbar is that bar at the bottom of your screen where all apps are usually placed when they are running.

Locate the Narrator icon in your taskbar. Right-click on it and then select Turn Off Narrator

Disable Windows 10 Narrator via Task Manager

You can also turn off Narrator through the Task Manager. Follow the steps below:

1. Launch the Start menu.

2. In the search bar, type “Task Manager” and open it.

3. Locate “Screen Reader”. It is under “Background Tasks” Right-click on “Background Tasks” and hit “End Task”.
