Mirroring an Android Phone to Windows

Various apps have been developed to let you mirror your Android device to a Windows PC. Although Windows has a native function that allows you to do that, it is not compatible with every Android device.

One of the best and straightforward apps you can get on the market for mirroring is Scrcpy. You can only do wired connection with it but it works really well.

Here’s how to download Scrcpy from Github

1. On a web browser on your PC, go to the Scrcpy page on Github https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy

2. Navigate to the Get the App section and locate the download links.

3. Download the .zip file from the link and extract it.

4. When it has been extracted, double-click the adb.exe file from the extracted files to install Android ADB tools. The installation will be done in the background.

Now it’s time to connect for mirroring.

1. Plug your Android device into your PC with a USB cable.

2. Open the scrcpy.exe from the scrcpy folder to start it .

3. At this point, your Android device may ask whether you want to allow USB debugging, tap Allow. You can also select Always Allow From This Computer so that the pop-up doesn’t show in the future.

This will cause the Scrcpy app to display the screen of your Android device. You can do a lot of things with the app: control your Android device with a mouse or keyboard, launch apps, type messages and even play games.

Mirroring an Android Phone to a Mac

The Scrcpy app is also available for Mac OS X computer. The process for installing that app on Windows is different on Mac. You first have to install the Homebrew app first.

1. Launch Finder on your Mac. Navigate from Applications to Utilities.

2. Launch the Terminal app and copy-paste the following command below:

/bin/bash -c “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install.sh)”

After that, hit Enter and wait 10 to 15 minutes for Homebrew to install.

3. Once that is done, install Android ADB tools with some more command line. In the terminal copy-paste the following:

brew cask install android-platform-tools

4. Next, Install the Scrcpy app. Here’s how to that: Enter the following command line

brew install scrcpy

When the installation completes, you can now go ahead and connect your Android to the Mac for mirroring.

1. Connect both devices with a USB cable. Once you do this, Android will show the USB Debugging notification. Tap Allow to continue.
