How to Import Password into Google Chrome via CSV File
Passwords are an essential element of online accounts. Without a password, you can’t log into your account even if you’re the owner. This is for security purposes or else, anyone can go in and out of your account just as they like.
If you have a lot of passwords you want to import into Google Chrome and don’t want to do it manually, you can use a CSV file. The issue with CSV files is that they don’t work straightforward like Excel spreadsheet. You’ll have to do some tweaks to allow them work. In this guide, we’ll show you how to do that.
How to Import Password Into Google Chrome Using a CSV File
You can import passwords into Chrome using two methods. You’ll need a CSV file and you’ll have to do some tweaking that will enable you import the passwords.
Import Password by Enabling Password Import Flag
This method is an easy way of importing passwords into Chrome. You’ll have to use the Chrome Experiment panel. The Chrome Experiment panel contains some hidden features that Chrome might release later in the future.
Follow the steps below to know how to use the feature and import passwords into Chrome.
1. Launch Google Chrome. You’ll need to get to the Experiment page. Start by typing in “chrome://flags” in the bar where you input web address. Hit Enter.
2. Since it’s Password Import we are interested in, you’ll need to search for it. Do this by typing “password import” into the search box.
3. Next, look over the left for the drop-down menu. Click to expand the menu and then select Enabled.
4. You’ll then see a Relaunch button at the bottom of the screen in the right. Click this button.
5. You’re making progress! Now, navigate to Settings located in the drop-down menu.
6. You want to navigate to Passwords, so go to the Auto fill section and locate it there. Next, click Passwords and the go to the Saved Passwords section.
7. When you’re there, look over the right for the three-dot menu icon and click it. This menu will bring up the Import option which you need.
8. Select Import. You must have your CSV ready so locate it and select it. Next, click Open.
Following these steps should import the passwords present in the CSV file. You should remember to disable the Password Import Flag by going back to the Experiments panel. Simply change it to Default.
Some Chrome versions might not have the Password Import Flag, so you can follow the next method.
Import Passwords via Dev Tools
This method may be a little techy, but it’s not that hard. Here’s how to go about it.
1. Launch Google Chrome and navigate to Settings. You’ll need to go to the Passwords section, so locate it and select it.
2. We are interested in the Saved Passwords section, so navigate there and click the three-dot icon.
3. Right-click on the Export Passwords option. You should see the Export Passwords option from the the drop down menu.
4. We are about to use the Dev Tools. So to access it, select Inspect and this will bring up a panel in the browser.
5. Find the word “hidden”. You will find it above the code that’s highlighted. Double-click on hidden.
6. You want the word hidden to be deleted, so hit Delete on your keyboard and hit Enter afterwards.
7. Go back to the Saved Passwords section and click the three-dot icon. You’ll see an Import option now, select it.
8. Locate and select the CSV file you wish to import. Select Open.
And you’ll have the passwords in the CSV file on Chrome.

Since Importing passwords via CSV is still in experimental stage in Chrome, doing this tweaks is the only way you can do CSV import on Chrome.
