Add Local Files to Spotify on PC and Mac

Spotify Desktop app will be able to add local files but you can’t do so on the web player. If you’re using Windows, Spotify would scan all the folder that contain music once you install the app.

On Mac, the steps are a little longer. You first need to enable the function that allows you to add local files. Below are steps to achieve these:

1. Launch Spotify on your computer. Navigate to Settings.

2. From Settings, go to Edit and then Preferences. Windows has the settings option in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

3. Locate Local Files from the sections listed there and enable the Show Local Files toggle.

4. To import the files from your computer into Spotify, click the Add a Source button. Spotify will give suggestions on the folders that contain the music files that can be added. It is possible for you to add specific songs or an entire album.

The added songs will be saved in the Local songs location in the Spotify Library.

You can also move the songs to a separate playlists or create a new one. This will enable you stream from you device easily.

For this feature to work, you must ensure that the songs are your on hard drive.

Add Local Files to Spotify on Android

Spotify doesn’t allow.you to add local files on your mobile device. Only Premium account owners can listen to local songs on their phone. For Free account owners, you can add local files but you’ll only be able to listen to them on a computer.

To listen to local music on Spotify mobile app, you’ll have to employ your computer in importing them. You can first transfer the files to a new playlist and then follow the steps below:

1. Launch Spotify and get to the album with the local files you want to import.

2. Download the entire album.

The songs will be downloaded and you can listen to them on your mobile device.

Just like said above, you can’t add local files to Spotify on mobile except you are a Premium user. Here’s how to get local songs to your iPhone.

1. Launch Spotify and navigate to the Settings.

2. Move down the screen until you get to Local Files. Enable Local Audio Files toggle.
