WhatsApp isn’t just an app, it is part of people’s life. The service that started as an app for just chatting as metamorphosed into a product for building relationships and making business connections.

With over 5 Billion downloads, the app is widely used by many all over the world to connect with others. It has replaced traditional text messaging by providing a platform users can communicate with each other at little cost. All you need is an internet connection, and you are good to go.

It allows you to share photos, videos and even documents. Majority of people know it can do all of these but there are some features of the app they don’t know about. And that’s what this post is about. We’ll be exploring two features that you may not have come across. Let’s dive in…

How to Archive Messages in WhatsApp

WhatsApp allows you to archive chats. By archiving, chat will no longer be available on the home chat list screen, but will now be in the Archived Chats folder. Here’s how to do this:

1. Go to the chats tab. This is where you can perform the action of archiving chats.

2. On Android, hold the chat. On iOS, Swipe left.

3. Next, select the Archive icon. This will cause that particular chat to he removed from the list.

You’ll be able to see the chat but it will now be in the Archived Chats section.

You can access the Archived Chat section by going to the bottom of the chat screen.

For groups, you can exit from them and once you do, the conversation will cease to exist from your WhatsApp.

To unarchive chats so that the conversation returns back to the regular list, select Unarchive.

How to Stop Media Auto-Download on WhatsApp

To make for an experience of ease, WhatsApp has a smart feature known as Media Auto-Download. This feature automatically downloads every photo sent to you in chats. However, you may not like this as it can take up space on your storage. But, you can turn it off and we’ll show you how:

1. Go to Settings in WhatsApp. The option for Auto Media Download is in Storage and Data. So select it.

2. You can the specify which kind of files you want WhatsApp to download and also dictate the conditions they should be downloaded.

You can choose any of Photo, Audio, Video, and Document files and you can select whether they should be downloaded automatically on WiFi and cellular data or only on WiFi. You can also opt not to download at all by selecting Never.

WhatsApp also allows you to do this for individual chats. Go to that particular conversation, tap the chat name > Media Visibility > disable or enable the feature.
