1. Slack

Slack came to the scene in 2013, and ever since then it has been leading the pack of team chat apps. Slack is robust with features that can cater for virtually all your needs. Not only that, you’ll find it easy to use became it has a great UX. Although, you may find that the notification can be a bit messy but with the other features, this can be overlooked. Conversations in Slack are made in Channels, and Channels can be for a project or team. You can also have Threads within channels that groups your conversations. There’s also Slackbot in Slack which acts as your assistant within the app. If you need a team chat app with solid set of features, then you can’t go wrong with Slack.

2. Microsoft Teams

If you already use apps from the Microsoft Office apps, then Microsoft Teams may just be the right fit for you. Microsoft Teams is popular among enterprise organisation and has features that cater for these kind of companies. There are channels in Teams which allow you to organise your teams or project. It has the standard features like basic messaging which allows you to send messages one-on-one or in groups. A strong point of Microsoft Teams, however, is it’s integration with Microsoft Office. You can easily work with Word documents, Excel Sheets, and PowerPoint presentations right from Microsoft Teams.

3. Google Chat

Google Chat which was previously Hangouts Chat is a fairly simple team collaboration app. Google Chats is organised by Rooms (like Channels) which can represent different team or project. In those rooms, you can have various discussion Threads. Members of the room can have conversations with text or different form of media. It also allows you to send messages privately to individuals. One standout feature of Google Chat is its integration with other Google apps. You can access files from Docs, Sheets Drive and Sides easily. Not only that, the search function of Google Chat is robust allowing you to deeply search things in the workspace.

4. Twist

Most chat apps have real-time communication feel but Twist offers another approach. Instead of the urgency you get in common apps, Twist removes this urgency. The app behaves like a email app. Opening Twist at any given time shows you what changed while you were off the app. This minimises distractions from your work and helps you to be focused on the most important things. Just spoke Slack, you have Channels which houses Threads. The app also allows you to send direct messages to other members of the workspace. There’s a con, however with Twist: it lacks integration with regular apps.
