The Best MSI Laptops 2023

MSI Raider GE78 HX

The Raider GE78 HX is a beast. One of the best MSI laptops around, this laptop is capable of handling demanding tasks. Under the hood is an Intel Core i9-13950HX that has so much power to run heavy tasks. The GPU is an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 with 12GB of VRAM. It boasts of a 32GB RAM, and 2TB SSD storage.

MSI makes some of the best gaming laptops around, and if you’re looking for a laptop that dominates with its sheer brute force then you’re going to want to take note of the aptly named Raider GE78 HX. Powered by a godly Intel Core i9-13950HX with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of NVMe SSD storage the Raider is already something to behold.
However, add to this awesome array an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU with 12GB of VRAM and you have a machine with enough power to laser engrave your name across the surface of the moon — the one around Neptune.
For every Yin, there is a Yang, and the Raider’s incredible power comes alongside an equally formidable price tag of $3,000. That price might convert impressively well into performance but it’s still a huge amount of cash to part with.
Thankfully, that’s the price of the MSI Raider GE78 HX at one of its most stacked configurations, and you can shave a fair amount off this gargantuan figure by pulling back on some of its more outlandishly powerful components.

MSI makes some incredibly powerful laptops, and if you want the absolute most power you can get in a portable (ish) package, then the MSI Titan GT77 HX is pretty much unrivaled.

This beast of a laptop comes with an Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, with 24 cores and 32 threads that deliver incredible performance. That’s paired with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, so any and all games you might want to play will run as smooth as butter on this hardware. Up to 128GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD storage round out this insanely fast machine.

The display here, a 17.3-inch 4K mini-LED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, is simply fantastic and justifies all the power. The mini-LED backlight means this laptop can achieve DisplayHDR 1000 certification for a phenomenal HDR experience, whether that’s in games or while watching movies. Sadly, the webcam is only 720p, though it does support Windows Hello facial recognition.

Ports are also everything you could want, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, three USB Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, Mini DisplayPort, RJ45 Ethernet, a headphone jack, and a full-size SD card reader. That’s quite a lot of connectivity. If you’re into RGB lighting, the keyboard has per-key RGB lighting and a there’s colorful light bar built into the exhaust vent at the back.

All of this makes for a very heavy machine — a whopping 7.28 pounds — but this laptop is all about power over everything else. This certainly isn’t a laptop for everyone, but if you want the most power you can get, this is the best laptop MSI makes. You just need a lot of money for it.

Some may be forgiven for thinking MSI is solely a gaming brand but devices like the MSI Modern 15 show it can do traditional wallet-friendly machines too.

The MSI Modern 15 is a laptop that could easily fool you into thinking it costs a few hundred pounds more than it does, truly living up to its ‘Modern’ moniker. Instead, it comes in at under £500 but provides top-notch productivity capabilities. With the 12th Gen Intel processor onboard and 8GB RAM included, it’s a device that’ll get the job done if you’re after something for browsing around in 10-20 tabs along with some light multitasking.

We can’t say enough about the design of this machine, it’s a marvel. It doesn’t scream luxury but it matches up with devices in the £700-plus bracket, not sub-£500 where it should be. It isn’t the thinnest and lightest laptop, but you wouldn’t be embarrassed to take this anywhere.

It’d make itself comfortably at home in a hybrid working set up too, with a solid selection of ports on offer. You’ll find a USB-C, three USB-A, an HDMI and a headphone jack. There’s a 720p webcam as well, which isn’t great on paper but it does a decent job at this price.
