How to Archive Conversations in Messenger

Messenger is the app that handles Facebook chats. This is no surprise in why Messenger ranks next to Facebook app in user base.

If you’re the type that has a lot of conversations, you might have encountered the Inbox clutter problem which happens when your inbox is disorganised. If you want to avoid this, you can archive your chats. Chats you archive will no longer be in your inbox, but will be in the Archive folder from where you can view them.

You can easily archive conversations in your Messenger app right from your Android device or iPhone.

On Desktop

1. Click the Messenger icon at the top-right corner.

2. Click See All in Messanger

3. On the Chat you want to archive, hover your mouse over it and click the three dots icon

4. From the menu, click Archive Chat

On Android

1. Launch Messenger on your Android device

2. Press and hold the conversation you want to archive.

3. You’ll see a menu appear. From the menu, select Archive.

On iOS

1. Launch Messenger on your device

2. Next, select the Conversation you want to archive and just slide from right to left.

3. From the option, select Archive.

How to View Archived Messages in the Messenger

On Desktop

You can do more with the Facebook desktop version. Here’s how to view archived chats on desktop:

1. Open the Facebook website on your browser and login.

2. Navigate to the top of the screen, and click the Messenger icon.

3. When the pop-up window appears, click See All in Messenger.

4. Navigate to the top where you’ll see three-dots icon. Click the icon and it will show a drop down menu.

5. From the options, select Archived Chats

This will take you to your archived conversations.

On Android

The Android version of the Messenger app allows you to view your Archived Chat easily. You must make sure you have the up-to-date version of the app. Here’s how to access archived chats:

1. Launch the Messenger app on your Android device.

2. At the top of her screen, select your Profile.

3. Select the Archived Chats option.

From there, you’ll see all archived conversations.

On iOS

The iPhone version of Messenger also allows you to access archived messages easily. If you have the latest version of the app, then you’ll be able to see this feature. Here’s how:

1. Launch the Messenger app on your iPhone.

2. Tap the profile icon which you’ll see at the top-left corner.

3. Select Archived Chats.

Once you select that, you’ll see all conversations that were archived.

How to Delete & Unarchive an Archived Conversation in Messenger

You may want to unarchive or delete a conversation from your Archived folder. Let’s get to how you do that:

On Desktop

1. Sign into Facebook on your desktop computer.

2. Next, go to your messages

3. At the left side is the sidebar. Select the three dots there.

4. Click Archived Chats.

5. Click the three-dot icon and then select Unarchive or Delete Chat.

On Android

1. Sign into Messenger and tap the Profile icon at the top-left.

2. Select the Archived Chats option from the options.

3. Press and hold the conversation you wish to delete.

4. Hit Unarchive or Delete.

On iOS

1. Launch the Messenger app and tap your profile at the left corner.

2. Select the Archived Chats option.

3. Swipe from left to right on the conversation and tap More.

4. Hit Unarchive or “Delete”

The conversation will them be removed from your device.
