The steps listed below will guide one on How to add program to path variable of the environment variable in order to run a program the command prompt:
1)   Open My Computer, Click on System Properties on the top

2)     Click on Advanced System settings and  a window will appear will open named System Properties


3)    Check down and click on Environment Variables

4)    A new window will open Environment Variables, go the System Variables and check for Path
5)    Click on Path and Click on Edit below

6)    A new window will open Edit environment Variable, To add new item to the Path, Click on New
7)    Go the location of the program you want to add to the Path, Copy the address location ( In here I want to add JAVA jre)
8)   Right Click on the New box and click on Paste ( Ctrl + V), then click on OK

9)    Thus, it added to the path on the environment variable
10)   You could launch the command prompt and launch any executable from the command
prompt without going to the actual location.
